If you’ve ever been to Palm Springs then you know it’s a whooole lot of desert and palm trees. But let’s get one thing straight: that’s not the appeal of Palm Springs. The true appeal of the sun-filled city lies in the resorts.
Tim and I recently went to Palm Springs for yet another weekend getaway and truly had one of the most relaxing vacations of our lives. The best part about it: we did absolutely NOTHING. Well, to be honest, we took the car out ONCE for a pretty special road trip, but I’ll get to that a little later!
Palm Springs is about a 2 and a half hour drive from Los Angeles, so by the time we got to our hotel we were definitely in chill mode. We stayed at the DoubleTree by Hilton Golf Resort and let me just say… WOW.
The moment you walk in, the open space and gorgeous, natural light fill the lobby and hallways. There’s a stunning outdoor area in the front of the hotel, complete with a small lake and a ton of adorable ducks. On the way to our room, we immediately noticed bar #1, located smack dab in the center of the hotel…convenient. 😉
We strolled into our room, complete with:
- Two queen-sized beds
- Full-length couch
- Wide-screen TV
- Walk-in closet
- Outdoor patio
- Last but certainly not least, a beautiful view of the golf course
We quickly unpacked, tossed on our bathing suits and scampered down to the pool, which was obviously to die for. There were cabanas, lounge chairs, a separate outdoor bar, a jacuzzi and… wait for it… A LIFE-SIZED CHESS SET WITH GINORMOUS PONS. Before you ask; duh, we played it.
We laxed out pool-side, sipping on our margaritas and eating our tacos. The only time we left our lounge chairs was to use the restroom or order more drinks (which we didn’t even really need to do considering the DoubleTree provides pool waiters)! It was truly a perfect day.
On day two we decided to do some more pool-chilling (obviously) then hopped in the car and made the 45 minute drive down to Joshua Tree. Located dead in the middle of the desert, Joshua Tree has several hikes, ranging from 2 miles to 12 miles and a whole lot less actual Joshua Trees than you would expect. It was a tough and hot hike that day, but overall worth it to get out and enjoy nature; one of our favorite things to do.
On our last day in the sun we decided to get a couples massage at the DoubleTree spa. It was absolutely incredible! The spa is about a 7 minute walk from the actual hotel. Stroll past the tennis courts, through the golf course, and into the building with a big “SPA” sign in all caps. Can’t miss it! The front desk concierge was a delight, even offering us a discount for both of our massages. The massages themselves… there are no words! I fell asleep at a certain point and when it was finally over, I didn’t want to believe it. We walked out feeling refreshed and rejuvenated as never before.
Before heading back to LA we spent our last few hours by the pool taking it all in. While we thrive in the bustling Los Angeles city, getting outside of all the craziness is necessary and needed. Palm Springs and the DoubleTree by Hilton Resort was the perfect escape.
