After hearing many amazing things about DevaCurl‘s Deva Cut, I finally decided to give it a try. I’ve always been obsessed with DevaCurl products so I absolutely couldn’t wait to get their famous haircut. Wondering what a Deva Cut actually is?
“The revolutionary cutting technique was designed for curls, waves and all natural textures. Hair is sculpted curl-by-curl, while dry, in its natural state according to your lifestyle, personality and preferences.”
I strolled into the Devachan Salon willing and eager to get my curls in the best shape of their life. My stylist, Tatyana, informed me the Deva Cut would also include their fabulous No-Poo Curl Transformation. She got started by asking me what I wanted out of my curls; more bounce, more volume, more moisture, curl restoration, etc. I told her I wanted my curls back in their bouncy, moisture-filled natural state. (I colored my hair twice in 2016 that added a tiny bit of damage to my curls which I wanted to reverse!)
My curls pre-DevaCurl life:
Once things really got started, she cut my hair dry, curl by curl. It was amazing actually. I’ve gotten several haircuts in my lifetime and no one has ever taken the time to cut each curl to perfection — but that’s truly the beauty of the Deva Cut. After the cut was finished, she washed my hair with DevaCurl No-Poo Cleanser and DevaCurl One Condition Conditioner. Benefits of each product below:
- Keeps hair healthy and hydrated
- Stimulates the scalp
- Cleans hair without stripping away natural oils
- Leaves you with shiny, bouncy curls
- Made with peppermint and grape seed oil
One Condition Conditioner:
- Locks in moisture for healthy hair
- Delivers softness and hydration
- Made with moisturizing olive oil and nourishing botanicals
Tatyana informed me that if you have curly hair, you should never use regular shampoo. This was something I had previously heard but never truly listened to. Shampoo strips your hair of necessary oils, eventually taking the bounce out of your curls and leaving them lackluster. The no-poo cleanser is a perfect substitute for shampoo, as it hydrates and stimulates your hair without taking away the moisture. I absolutely loved that it smelled like peppermint!
The one condition conditioner smelled great as well, and didn’t weight my hair down a bit. Tatyana left a small amount in my hair during the process of washing it out to act as a leave in conditioner for extra moisture (another technique she suggested I start doing!) While my hair was still wet, she put DevaCurl styling cream throughout my hair, starting at the roots. Benefits of the styling cream:
- Leaves curls bouncy and shiny
- Gives touchable texture and frizz control
- Strengthens hair
- Defines and tames curls
- Made with jojoba
Afterwards, she flipped my hair upside down and scrunched up my curls to give them that good ol’ bounce. She informed me that after applying your products, you can scrunch and touch your hair slightly, but absolutely do not rake your fingers through it. This is crucial for your curls to stay styled the way you want them to. She then placed clips throughout the top of my wet hair to ensure lot’s of volume (I looked nuts but it was worth it!)
While the clips were still in, she then placed the famous DevaCurl hair dryer on top, which might look super futuristic, but in reality is just a gigantic version of a diffuser. It dried my curls to perfection, leaving my scrunched curls perfectly in tact.
Once my curls were completely dry, Tatyana fluffed out my curls so the cream didn’t leave them too crunchy or hard. This is an essential step if your goal is to have soft, luscious curls. After the right amount of fluffing and final scrunching, this was the end result:
My curls are now thriving and better than ever! I definitely credit the Deva Cut and DevaCurl hair products for the current state my hair is in. It’s now more moisturized, bouncier and more defined. I couldn’t be happier and would 100 percent recommend them to all my girls with curls! For more curly hair tips and tricks, check out my daily curly hair routine.
