After hearing many amazing things about it, I recently purchased Mario Badescu’s acne starter kit to see what all the buzz was all about for myself. The kit cost $30, which is relatively reasonable considering the facial cleanser alone cost $15. I picked it up from Urban Outfitters which was fabulous because unlike other highly demanded facial kits that you can only buy online, this one is available in a store you already shop at.
The kit comes with an acne facial cleanser, a special cucumber lotion, an oil free moisturizer, a drying mask and a drying cream. I couldn’t wait to give it a try! Here’s what I thought of each product.
I used the cleanser with my Vanity Planet face brush and it literally felt like I was scrubbing WATER onto my face; it was *that* lightweight. Most moisturizers either feel too itchy/tingly or too heavy on my skin, but this one was the all around perfect texture.
The application was insanely smooth, but the only downfall was that it was a little too drying for my liking. The directions say to leave it on for 20 minutes, but after 10 my skin was already feeling too tight. If your skin is naturally dry, I’d probably skip this step and opt for a moisturizing mask instead.
This toner was amazing! Can’t recommend it enough. Similarly to the facial cleanser, it felt like I was applying water to my skin. You put a few drops of toner on a cotton pad then swipe it all over your face. After just a few swipes you can see all the dirt and oils coming off on the cotton pad. It left my skin feeling so smooth!
Loved this moisturizer. I always tend to look for moisturizers that are oil free because my skin doesn’t respond well to oily products. It was the perfect mixture of creamy and lightweight. My skin felt baby soft after applying it.
I left the cream on my problem areas for a few hours and they completely shrunk. I’d definitely use this as my daily acne spot treatment for any breakouts that occur.
Final result and overall thoughts:
This kit was so good! Like I said, I’d use the drying mask sparingly, depending on your skin type. But overall, I loved all the products and the end result was exactly what I’d hoped for; smooth, clear skin.
